In 2025, for the first time, the celebration of the Day of Tango in Sofia will be a featured guest event in the program of CULTURAMA Fest!
The World Tango Day (or "el dia del tango", as it is known in Argentina and around the world) is celebrated every year on December 11, the birthday of the legendary tango singer and composer Carlos Gardel.
In Sofia, this day has been honoured since 2004 with special events, which, in addition to concerts, exhibitions, dance seminars, screenings, etc., always include the traditional Gran Milonga, at which tango dancers gather to listen and dance to their favorite music.
This year, the celebration of el Día del Tango will present again the annual Gran Milonga at 8 p.m. to midnight, in honor of the World Tango Day, during which all those who can dance Argentine tango will be able to do it under the music of the great orchestras from the golden age of tango. During the milonga, at around 9 p.m., there will be a show performance by professional tango dancers Eugenia Parilla and Yanick Wyler, special guests of this year's celebration of El Día del Tango and CULTURAMA Fest.

Eugenia Parilla and Yanick Wyller
Eugenia Parilla and Yanick Wyller are an Argentine-Swiss dance couple and maestros of Argentine tango and one of the leading representatives of the new wave of tango professionals using contemporary methods in their work. Eugenia was born and raised in Argentina, where she began listening to and dancing tango from an early age. Later, while studying fine arts in Buenos Aires, she learned and practiced various contemporary dance techniques, with which she enriched her dancing style. In 2001, she began working with the famous Argentine tango dancer Mariano "Chicho" Frumboli, an idol for many tango dancers. Together, they laid the foundations of a new contemporary approach to dancing and teaching tango, which has caused an unprecedented boom in tango among young people around the world in the last two decades. After Chicho, Eugenia worked with other famous tango dancers, including Ezequiel Farfaro and Pablo Inza, until 2010 when she met Yanick Wyller, with whom she continues to work to this day researching, dancing and teaching Argentine tango. Here is what Eugenia says about her partner: "Yanick is my favorite dancer, with a strong ability to express and convey meaning in dance, a virtuoso in his creativity and musicality". The two have been guests at the largest international tango festivals, have led countless lessons and seminars around the world, have danced on stage with many tango orchestras performing traditional as well as contemporary and electronic tango, have participated in several documentaries about tango and have been part of numerous dance, photography and music projects.
All events included in the celebration of El Día del Tango in Sofia in 2025 are part of the program of the autumn edition of CULURAMA Fest and take place under the patronage of the Embassy of the Republic of Argentina.
