CULTURAMA 2023 FESTIVAL presents the exhibition
“WILD SOFIA – BIRDS”
The closing event of the summer edition of the CULTURAMA festival is the exhibition "WILD SOFIA - BIRDS", which can be seen in the NDK park area, summer stage "Kino & Bar Cabana" from July 18 to August 15, 2023. The official opening will take place on July 18 at 1:00 p.m. in the presence of the organizers, partners, authors, and representatives of the Sofia Municipality.
The exhibition "WILD SOFIA - BIRDS" is a continuation of a theme first presented by the Regional History Museum - Sofia in 2020. A team of photographers and artists presents familiar and beloved animals, ones that everyone has probably encountered, as well as rarer, secretive, nocturnal, and bizarre inhabitants of the big city.
The focus is on one of the most important and eloquent indicators of the quality of life in a city—the presence and diversity of birds.
Every tree cut down, every bush removed, replaced by smooth lawns, means less shelter and food for the secret inhabitants of Sofia. A richly landscaped or even sometimes seemingly neglected yard is actually home to many birds. Every tree in the yard, every pot of flowering plants on the balcony, contributes to the preservation and enrichment of wildlife in our city.
The exhibition features photographs by Atanas Grozdanov, Asen Ignatov, Dimitar Dimitrov, Diyan Yankulov, Zhivko Nakev, Katerina Kavaljieva, H.E. Maciej Szymański, as well as original illustrations by Anelia Pashova, Asen Ignatov, Asya Kamenova, Ventsislav Krastev, Georgi Pchelarov, Denitsa Peneva, and Maria Krumovska. The curator is Hristina Grozdanova.
This is the third exhibition of this year's edition of the CULTURAMA festival after "BIRDS – PARADISE ON EARTH" (June 13-27, 2023, at the Bridge of Lovers, NDK) and the exhibition "NOSTALGIA FOR PARADISE" (Slaveykov Square, June 18-July 15, 2023).
"The impulse that prompted us to present this exhibition, in which we address important social issues and ideas for small steps towards change in juxtaposition with images of these extraordinary creatures, is the topic of global warming caused by harmful emissions, which threatens the future of all living creatures on our planet. The disappearance of key animal, bird, and plant species is a serious problem that requires urgent measures to limit warming to between 1.5°C and 2°C. Otherwise, this process of change will be beyond our control!" urge the organizers.
Birds are disappearing silently every day
Among nature's countless gifts that are under threat are birds, which have inspired us for millennia with the beauty and freedom of their flight. But with each passing day, their songs fade and their populations decline. Record high temperatures and changes in ecosystems are forcing birds to cope with unprecedented challenges.
Declining food sources: Climate change is causing changes in the seasons, disrupting food chains and reducing the availability of sufficient resources. This, in turn, affects birds' ability to find enough food to survive and reproduce.
Changing migration routes: Significant impacts on migration routes could endanger the populations of many valuable species. Have you ever wondered what happens to them if spring arrives early? Many birds may arrive at a time when there is not enough food, which can be detrimental to their reproduction. There is also a real danger caused by collisions with other species or a prolonged lack of suitable food sources during migration.
Loss of nesting sites: Global warming is causing the loss of vital nesting sites for birds, such as forests and wetlands. Their reduction and drying up are having a serious impact on their habitats.
Fortunately, not everything is irreversible!
We still have a chance to address harmful emissions and unite to preserve biodiversity and avoid further damage to human health and the global economy. Together, we can take small steps toward change every day. Everyone has a key role to play here—businesses, government institutions, corporations, and every individual who cares about the fate of our planet.
By applying quality requirements in the development of the CULTURAMA.ART platform and all digital products, Accenture demonstrates that technological progress and responsibility towards the planet can go hand in hand.
In developing the CULTURAMA.ART platform and all its digital products, Accenture is demonstrating its commitment to protecting the environment. By providing a range of innovative solutions, the company is helping to create a more sustainable world. Here are some of them:
• When not in use (evenings and weekends), development environments are shut down, reducing energy consumption.
• AWS vendor: In addition to being a leading cloud service provider, AWS is 3.6 times more energy efficient than corporate data centers in the US and 5 times more energy efficient than typical corporate infrastructures in the EU. Amazon is on track to power its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025.
• CDN (Content Delivery Network): The energy required to transmit data over wireless/cable networks is extremely high. CDN is used to reduce network traffic and server load.
• Data compression: According to a study, each gigabyte (GB) of data takes about 2 kWh to transfer over a mobile network. Therefore, by applying appropriate compression techniques, the total energy required for data transmission can be reduced by about 56%.
• Use of energy-efficient notification protocols, which reduces emissions by up to 43%.
• The user interface supports dark mode, reducing the carbon footprint of the user interface by about 85%.
• Only 0.35g of CO2 is produced each time someone visits culturama.art
• Team members are trained to use best practices in developing green software systems.
Sofia Municipality, CULTURAMA, Accenture Bulgaria, LIDL Bulgaria, and Wild Sofia together for the birds—the music of the city!
