The Orient Express is more than just a railway line. It is a story in motion, a metaphor for the circulations that have shaped Europe and its margins. Since its first journey in 1883 from Paris to Constantinople on the mythical Orient Express train., it has embodied a fluid geography—an Europe of passages, of crossroads, and intertwined languages. It is both real and fictional, a place of exchange but also of projection, fantasies, and images of the Other. We aim to reactivate its evocative power, not to reconstruct a nostalgic past, but to extract from it a living experience, where music and imagery shape a collective memory of travel. Our Orient Express is not a train lost to time, but a train of possibilities. A train where identities circulate, evolve, and respond to each other. A manifesto for an open, fluid, and porous Europe.

Different places have different customs, different ways of preserving time through cultural memory. Regardless of globalization and schedules, each place emits its own sense of the passage of time according to individual worldview, memory, culture, imagination... In this musical journey following the nomadic pulse of life, the sense of the passage of time corresponds to the essence of music. The series of works charts a route through different cultural climates and sensibilities, where the ability to embrace all experiences unites the differences, preserving their multifaceted uniqueness.

We try to embody this pulse and influence through a fusion of music, bringing together fine musicians from different places and genres. INA KANCHEVA brings a bunch of extraordinary muisicians in this project, that is, first and foremost, a musical journey—an exploration of traditions and repertoires, milestones on this artery crossing through the continent: popular and classical music, nomadic voices, and rhythms born from the fusion of cultures.

Our repertoire reflects this interplay between rootedness and wanderlust, between orality and composition, between heritage and reinvention. We draw from Michel Legrand, Mikis Theodorakis, Zoltán Kodály, Kurt Weill, Antonín Dvořák, alongside Gypsy, Balkan, Turkish, Greek, and Mediterranean traditions.

Rather than a mere collage of influences, we seek an organic fusion, a musical fabric that circulates and transforms. Each piece is an imaginary station, a sonic layover where festivity and melancholy, the sacred and the profane, intertwine.
