CULTURAMA invites you to the OPENING OF THE EXHIBITION based on the book SUZY, THE GRANDDAUGHTER OF HOUSE NO. 4 AND THE TIME OF THE HIDDEN JEWISH STARS

85 years since Kristallnacht and the premiere of the book SUZI, the Granddaughter from House No. 4 and the Time of the Hidden Jewish Stars in the presence of author Birgitta Beer, translator Maya Razboinikova-Frateva, and actress Albena Stavreva.

The Old House tells the story of Suzy, a Jewish girl forced to hide with her parents during National Socialism in Germany and live in illegality. This is the only way the three of them can survive...
This is a true and inspiring story based on biographical and historical facts. It is at the heart of this book, which appropriately addresses children and carefully and excitingly guides them towards the important things in life. A book about humanity and compassion, about hope and love. It tells not only about the past, but also about our Here, Now and Everywhere.
*The world does not begin somewhere out there, but right inside you!*

The publication was produced in cooperation with and with the support of TRADUKI, Sofia Municipality Culture Program, the State Cultural Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Communitas Foundation, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, and the Organization of Jews in Bulgaria "Shalom."

I DON'T CARE IF HISTORY WILL REMEMBER US AS

BARBARIANS

A co-production between Romania, the Czech Republic, France, Bulgaria, and Germany

Feature film, 138 minutes, © 2018

"I don't care if history remembers us as barbarians." With these words,

spoken before the Council of Ministers in Romania in the summer of 1941, began

the ethnic cleansing of the Eastern Front, and the Romanian army massacred

nearly 20,000 Jews in Odessa. The film attempts to reflect on this

statement. Today, a young theater director wants to stage a play

about this dark episode in history, by staging a reenactment in front of a large

audience in a public place. Is such a performance possible?

In 1987, several hundred colour slides from the Second World War were discovered in one of Vienna's antique shops. It turned out that they contained scenes from life in the Litzmannstadt ghetto (the German name for the city of Łódź). Their author – the first of its kind in the history of photography – was Walter Genewein, an Austrian citizen, photography enthusiast, and accountant. He documented the work of Jews in the ghetto, which had been turned into a large manufacturing enterprise. The film cites German documents and correspondence from the occupation period, which tell the story behind the scenes of the ghetto, the fate of Walter Genewein himself, and the leaders of the Jewish enclave.
