EXHIBITION DATES June 24 - July 8, 2024
„Fluid Contact"
The Fluid Contact project embodies innovative and artistic research, introducing creative methods for perceiving the world through the perspective of water. It aims to play a role in deconstructing the human-centered perspective inherent in traditional photographic methods, offering a new approach to our relationship with water that transcends the conventional boundaries of photography and utilizes camera-less experimental techniques.
The series of works was created by collaborating with the forces of nature, namely sunlight and the water of the Seine River in Paris. This represents direct contact with all organisms and chemical compounds currently found in the river water, less than a year before it is made suitable for swimming and therefore filtered for the 2024 Olympic Games. The idea that the river water should once again become suitable for swimming, which has not been the case since 1900, is the conceptual starting point for the project.

"Fluid Contact" explores the idea of touch in photographic images and shows the orientation of Marta Jurina's artistic practice towards "touch in photographic images." The project encompasses existing works that she has developed since 2019 , linking phenomena of natural light such as bioluminescence or the influence of water and sunlight on photographic materials with historical photographic techniques and direct light exposures on analog photographic paper as unique works.
During her residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (as part of the ADP artist development program of the EiB Institute in Luxembourg) from September to November 2023, the Fluid Contact project emerges as the result of an artistic field study: working through images, applying analogue photographic techniques on site on the banks of the Seine, where light serves as both subject and medium. This project was later expanded by studying fluid photography from the earliest days of the medium and researching scientific phenomena to the present day.
